What is a Corridor Study?

A corridor study is an examination of transportation needs on a particular stretch of road to gather knowledge that may someday be the start of transportation improvement projects.

Corridor planning takes needs identified in the long-range plan, refines the understanding of those needs, and evaluates potential transportation strategies to address them.

The end result is the selection of an investment strategy that best meets the needs in the corridor and that fits the region's financial capacity.

Corridor plans are the connection between the long-range plan and project development.

A Corridor Study is NOT…

  • An Environmental or NEPA Study
  • A Preliminary or Final Design Project
  • A Right of Way Acquisition Project
  • A Construction or Maintenance Project
